Dr. Nisuke Ando
is a Professor Emeritus of Kyoto
University and Director
of the Kyoto Human Rights Research Institute. He Graduate from Department of
Law Kyoto University (LL.B. 1959), Completed
LL.M. at its Graduate
School (1961), obtained
Ph.D. from Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (1971)
Prof. Ando
has been devoted his professional life to the study of International Law and
Human Rights: In 1965-1968, he served as a Lecturer at Kyoto University.
Further, he was an associate professor (1968-1981) and a professor of
International Law (1990-1998) at Kyoto
University. In 1981-1990,
he served at Kobe University as a professor of International Law at Kobe University.
During 1998-2006, Prof. Ando
was a professor of international Law at Doshisha University.
Prof. Ando
has been participated in various International Organizations in the field of international
law: Member of Human Rights Committee under the International Covenant on Civil
and Political Rights (1987-2006; Chairperson 1993-1994); Member of the
Permanent court of Arbitration (2001-present); Judge of the Administrative
Tribunal of the International Monetary Fund (1994-present); and Member of L’Institut
de Droit International (1999-preset).
Moreover,
Prof. Ando has been actively involved in the work of civil society
organizations: Japanese Society of International Law (Member 1959-preset;
Editor-in-Chief 1991-93; President 1998-2000); Life member of American Society
of International Law (1962-present).
