Speaker- Kyong-Whan Ahn

     Dr. Ahn is a Professor of Seoul National University College of Law and former Chairperson of National Human Rights Commission of Korea. He graduated from Santa Clara University School of Law, U.S.A. with J.D. in 1985, completed LL.M. at University of Pennsylvania Law School, U.S.A. in 1982 and received a LL.B. from Seoul National College of Law Graduate, Republic of Korea in 1970.

     His academic experiences are: Professor of Seoul National University College of Law (1987-present), Visiting Scholar of London School of Economics and Political Science, U.K. (1990-1991), Visiting Professor of Law of Southern Illinois University Law School, U.S.A. (1996-1997), Director of Public Law and Human Rights Law Center of Seoul National University (2000-2002), Dean of Seoul National University College of Law (2002-2004), and Distinguished Visiting Professor of Santa Clara Law School, U.S.A (2005).

    Dr. Ahn served as Chairperson of National Human Rights Commission of Korea (October 2006 to June 2009), Vice Chair of International Coordinating Committee of National Institutions for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (March 2007 to June 2009), Deputy Chair of The Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (2007-2008), Advisory Jurist for the Asia Pacific Forum for National Human Rights Institutions (2003-2008), Chairman of Committee of Legal Policy, Ministry of Education, Korea (2003-2004), President, The Korean Law School Dean’s Association (2002-2004), and Founding Chairman of the Steering Committee of People’s Solidarity for the Participatory Democracy (1994-1999).
